Breastfeeding Preparation
Empowering Parenthood: Breastfeeding Preparation Classes
Breastfeeding is normal and natural, but it is a learned skill. Taking Breastfeeding Preparation Classes while pregnant is a wonderful way to prepare for a smoother and more confident breastfeeding journey right from the beginning. These classes support you to learn about what to expect, how to hold and latch your baby and how to overcome any early challenges.
HSE: Breastfeeding Classes
During pregnancy ask your midwife, obstetrician, public health nurse or GP questions about breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding preparation classes are provided by midwives or IBCLC’s in all maternity hospitals.
Talk to your midwife about antenatal and breastfeeding preparation classes available in your area. In certain situations, you may be referred to an IBCLC during pregnancy by your midwife.
You can also talk to an IBCLC using the free online service ‘Ask our breastfeeding expert’
Private: Breastfeeding Classes
In addition, many of our IBCLC members are skilled facilitators of Breastfeeding Preparation Classes, which they conduct privately. These classes are typically held within the community or online, and they may involve a fee. The duration and content may vary among these private classes, allowing you to choose what suits your needs best. To find a class that aligns with your preferences, take a moment to explore the options below.
Furthermore, for those with private health insurance, it's worth noting that most insurance companies offer coverage, either in full or in part, for IBCLC run class fees. To understand the extent of your coverage, please review your insurance documents carefully.
