  • For effective functioning, the Association requires individuals dedicated to organising events, managing funding and accounts, handling publicity, providing member services, and making submissions to government and other agencies.
  • Council members should reside within the island of Ireland and be available to actively participate in our Association, contributing to the development of a stronger, more dynamic, and effective organization for the future.
  • Currently, there is a specific need for individuals with ICT expertise to contribute to the improvement of our website and social media presence.

ALCI Council Job Description

  1. The term of office is three years, and you may serve up to two consecutive terms.
  2. There are approximately 6 General Council meetings per year.  In a typical year, General meetings are held by way of a 2 hour Zoom in January, AGM in April, in person meeting May, Zoom in June and again in early September, and to close the year in person in November. 
  3. Additionally, Council holds in-person meetings over a Friday/Saturday & Sunday in March for the Spring Study Day and again in September/ October ALCI National Conference. These in-person meetings are held at the location of the upcoming Conference. 
  4. All General Meetings are planned ideally 6-12months in advance through council agreement.
  5. Every effort is made to accommodate the availability of all Council members for all meetings. It is important to note that attendance at these meetings and full participation in ALCI educational events are encouraged, minutes from meetings will be communicated to all Council as soon as possible after meetings.
  6. Council members are required to comment on Gmail items twice weekly, which takes about an hour. Each Council member has a designated area of responsibility (such as Secretary, PR, education, and others), requiring approximately 50 hours over the year.
  7. Between meetings, the Council communicates officially on email thread or through WhatsApp Messenger. 
  8. These hours can be logged and used as part of the IBLCE's "250 hours in practice,"

Are expenses refunded for ALCI Council members?

ALCI Council members are provided with complimentary admission to ALCI Members Study Days and the National ALCI Conference. Travel expenses are covered for the two educational days, council meetings, and any other Council-related travel (once previously approved by finance). Meals and accommodation are included on the night preceding the spring study day and conference. Generally, serving on ALCI Council does not incur out-of-pocket expenses.

Nominees Criteria

Excerpt From ALCI Constitution dated January 2022:

  • be members of the Association for 12 months previous to nomination 
  • be qualified and registered IBCLCs.
  • subscribe to the purpose, aims, and policies of ALCI without reservation.
  • agree not to accept direct or indirect funding from any commercial entity not in compliance with the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and its subsequent relevant World Health Assembly resolutions for the duration of their time in office.
  • disclose any real, perceived, or potential conflict of interest when in a position to influence a decision of ALCI Council or membership that will result in personal or professional gain for them or a family member.
  • agree to not endorse any literature or product in their official capacity as a Council Member of the  Association, whether current or former, but are free to do so as private persons.

How does the nomination process work?

  • You may nominate yourself or another ALCI member. To do so, please fill Page 4 and send to [email protected] by 5pm Tuesday 4th March, 2025. Note, if you are nominating another person, their permission for their nomination to proceed will be sought by the ALCI Administrator. 
  • Should Council receive more new nominations than available vacancies, then this will proceed to a members vote.   Ballots will be sent to ALCI members, if required, a minimum of 14 days before ballot return date.
  • All information on Page 4 of this document will be shared with all ALCI members so that they can make an informed vote. Permission for this information to be shared will be sought by Administrator.
