What does a member of ALCI Council do?

  1. The term of office is three years, and you may serve up to two consecutive terms.
  2. There are approximately 6–7 meetings per year, with every effort made to accommodate the availability of all Council members. It's important to note that attendance at these meetings and full participation in ALCI educational events are encouraged. In a typical year, this involves 2-hour Zoom meetings in January, February, April, August or September, and October. Additionally, there are consecutive Friday and Saturday sessions in March for the Study Day and another set in September or October for the Conference.
  3. The majority of these meetings are conducted via Zoom calls.
  4. Council members are required to comment on email items weekly, which takes about an hour. Each Council member has a designated area of responsibility (such as Secretary, PR, education, and others), requiring approximately 50 additional hours over the year.
  5. These hours can be logged and used as part of the IBLCE's "250 hours in practice," and one can earn 2 CERPs per year for serving on a Board (or Council advocating as an NGO for breastfeeding).

Are expenses refunded for ALCI Council members?

ALCI Council members are provided with complimentary admission to ALCI Members Study Days and the National ALCI Conference. Travel expenses are covered for the two educational days, council meetings, and any other Council-related travel (such as a subcommittee meeting to apply for a grant). Meals and accommodation are included on the night preceding the spring study day and conference. Generally, serving on ALCI Council does not incur out-of-pocket expenses.
